Mumbai: Bollywood and fashion walk hand in hand, and the ongoing India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) has been no exception. From dream girl Hema Malini to younger actresses like Bipasha Basu and Kangana Ranaut - the female brigade of tinsel town has been adding sparkles at the event as showstoppers for various designers and brands.
The fashion event, currently in its second edition, has actress Sonam Kapoor as its brand ambassador. It is a platform for Indian jewellery designers and design houses to showcase their creativity.
But emerging, successful, as well as veteran Bollywood beauties sporting exquisite jewellery pieces have been stealing the show with their star power.
The five-day event started Sunday, with actresses like Bipasha, Soha Ali Khan, Mahie Gill, Riya Sen walking the ramp in Gitanjali Jewels` creations. The brand showcased the collection in association with the cause Beti, a campaign for the girl child.
The first day also witnessed appearances by actress Geeta Basra, who walked for Sangam Chains, model Angela Jonsson, who was the showstopper for Gehna Jewellers and "Garam Masala" heroine Nargis Bhageri, who strutted down the ramp for Eekani Jewels.
A star attraction was National award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut, who reprised her role from the film "Fashion" in real life for Amrapali, a fine jewellery company.
Day two saw newbies and veterans - both dazzling on the ramp. The highlight was yesteryear `dreamgirl` Hema Malini, who looked ethereal in a blue sari teamed with diamond jewellery.
"Veer" actress Zarine Khan and "Singham" heroine Kajal Aggarwal also managed to impress in their respective shows. But Kalki Koechlin received a roaring applause when she broke into a jig and enthralled audiences with her dance moves on the song "Senorita" from her recently released film "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", during the show for Kays Jewels Pvt Ltd.
The third day also had a host of ladies on the ramp from the silver screen. While Agni Jewels` show presented names like Zoa Morani, Yuvika Chowdhary and Amrita Rao, Zarine returned to the runway, but for Dwarkadas Chandumal Jewellers this time. However, old remained gold on the third day too as Zeenat Aman outshone the much younger Mahima Chaudhary in Sawansukha Jewellers` show.
Both actresses walked the ramp for the same jewellery brand, but Zeenat`s charm and elegance won her more attention and appreciation.
Day four at IIJW turned into a mini Bollywood girls` day out!
The event saw actresses like Shraddha Kapoor, Isha Koppikar showcasing jewellery on the ramp for different jewellers, and Malaika Arora Khan and Perizaad Zorabian will be seen in evening shows as well.
The finale Thursday will witness IIJW brand ambassador Sonam as the showstopper.
