Denims that last for 400 outings!
London: Move over Little Black Dress, for denims are the one outfit that every girl ought to have in her wardrobe – not just because they are fashion savvy but aren’t too hard on your wallet either.
Scientists have worked out that the cost-per-wear ratio (dividing the cost of clothing by the number of times it is worn) is lower for jeans than any other item, apart from basic underwear and T-shirts.
A typical pair of jeans lasts for about 428 times before they are thrown out – which works out at just 9p a time, reports The Daily Mail.
The study examined the wardrobes of 3,000 women. It found that knickers and T-shirts were the hardest workers.
Jeans, though, were the sturdiest performers, being worn many more times and costing only a tiny bit more per wear.
The statistics were published in a report for London’s Science Museum to support its Trash Fashion: Designing Out Waste exhibition.
