Hepburn`s black dress voted greatest screen outfit of all times

Audrey's black dress has been named as the greatest female screen outfit.

London: It`s been 50 years since Audrey Hepburn first wore it, but her simple black dress from the cult hit `Breakfast at Tiffany`s` has been named the greatest female screen outfit of all time in a new survey. It beat off competition from more recent favourites, such as the Sarah Jessica Parker`s silk wedding gown from `Sex And The City` and sexier ensembles, such as Ursula Andress`s bikini in the original Bond film `Dr No`, reported Daily Mail online.
Designed by Givenchy, and accessorised with a string of pearls and long black gloves, Hepburn`s little black dress starred in the opening scenes of the 1961 film. "Audrey Hepburn has truly made that little black dress a fashion staple which has stood the test of time despite competition from some of the most stylish females around," said Helen Cowley, editor of Lovefilm magazine, which conducted the survey. Since then, frocks just like it have become the byword for elegance. One of three original versions of the dress sold for USD 598,000 in 2006. The emerald green gown worn by Keira Knightley in`Atonement`, came in second place and Marilyn Monroe`s cheeky white dress from the `Seven Year Itch` was voted third. Andress`s white bikini was fourth and Hepburn made another entry at sixth, with the long white dress, hat and parasol her character Eliza Doolittle wore to the races in `My Fair Lady`. The girls from `Sex And The City`, who have become modern style icons, only managed to scrape in at tenth with Carrie Bradshaw`s Vivienne Westwood wedding dress from the first film. PTI
