Read a lot to succeed in fashion: Vivienne Westwood
London: Legendary designer Vivienne Westwood feels that young designers should cultivate the habit of reading to survive in the fashion world.
Westwood, who is credited for launching the UK`s punk scene in the 1970s and a favourite of Helena Bonham Carter, feels that culture is important to succeed in fashion.
The 69-year-old says she is very fond of reading, which has helped her a lot in her career, the New York Post reported.
"This is the secret: reading. A young person might be talented and can make two great collections, but then they dry up. You have to have culture.
"If not, where do you get your ideas? If you don`t understand the past, you don`t understand the world. By knowing what has been done, you know what`s possible," she said.
Westwood, who continues to be a big force in the fashion world, however does not believe that she has a personal style.
"I don`t know if I have developed in any specific way. I always tend to like my latest collection best. I`ve done so many and I keep thinking, `Why do you need to keep on doing this?`"
