London: Jenny Packham, who is quite excited about the rave reviews she received for the outfit she designed for Kate Winslet for the premiere of ‘Titanic 3-D’, believes that The Duchess of Cambridge is a delight as she is “a dream to dress”.
The 47-year-old first hit the headlines in 2010 as a contender for Kate Middleton’s wedding dress (created eventually by Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen). “I went to Westminster Abbey to check it out, just in case, and it’s such a huge place, I kind of knew it wasn’t quite our thing. You need to have a big dress in that environment, and what we do is much softer.” The Duchess of Cambridge is evidently a big fan, though, as she’s sported four Packham dresses in the past year, most memorably one in beaded rose silk chiffon at her first public engagement as a married woman last summer. Packham made that in five days: “We just had a call.” Talking about Winslet’s outfit at Titanic 3D’s red carpet premiere, Packham knew that it was going to be a winner as soon as the actress tried on the black satin, crepe gown with Swarovski-crystal encrusted sleeves, the Telegraph reported. “She looked spectacular,” she said. And the press agreed. With her gowns adorning Duchesses, Titanic stars and red carpets around the world, British designer Packham has become the new favourite. This year has been quite a whirl as her creations have also graced Cameron Diaz (once) and Angelina Jolie (three times). ANI
