Alcoholic Christmas Drinks

Choosing the right alcoholic drink has become a difficult issue these days. The decision has become even more problematic by the fact that the traditional lunch of roasted bird and boiled veggies is slowly giving way to an array of new dishes.

So if selecting right drink seems like a next to impossible task, why not seek out some interesting alternatives for the perfect accompaniments to the changing mind and palate.

DRIED APRICOT BRANDY

Ingredients:

1/5 vodka
1 lb. dried apricots
1 lb. rock candy

Procedure:

Put all in a 2 qt. jar and seal. Turn everyday for one week. Drain off brandy. Good served over crushed ice.

APPLE PIE DRINK

Ingredients:

1 qt. apple juice
1/2 tin apple pie spice
1/2 jar honey
3 c. ever clear liquor

Procedure:

In 2-quart pan, put apple juice and warm (do not boil). Add apple pie spice, and honey, mix well. Add everclear and divide into bottles, cap and let age 1 month. Serve cold or hot.

CIDER CUP

Ingredients:

1 quart sweet cider
4 ounces sweet sherry
4 ounces brandy
apple slices
1 pint chilled club soda

Procedure:

Pour the cider, sherry and brandy into a large pitcher. Add chunks of ice or 12 to 16 ice cubes and the apple slices. Add club soda and stir gently. Serve in 4-ounce punch glasses or wine glasses.

NO EGG EGGNOG

Ingredients:

6 cups milk
1 package instant vanilla pudding and pie filling -- (4-serving size)
4 teaspoons rum extract
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg -- divided
2 cups heavy cream -- (1 pint)
2 tablespoons confectioners` sugar

Procedure:

In a punch bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix; mix well. Add the rum extract and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg; mix well and set aside.

In a medium bowl, beat the heavy cream and confectioners` sugar until stiff peaks form. Add half of the whipped cream mixture to the milk mixture; stir until well blended.
Dollop the remaining whipped cream mixture over the top and sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Serve immediately.

CHRISTMAS PUNCH RECIPE

Ingredients:

2 C. water
1 C. sugar
4 C. cranberry juice
4 cinnamon sticks
12 cloves
2 C. orange juice
1 1/2 C. lemon juice
2 C. pineapple juice
1 quart ginger ale

Procedure:

Boil water and sugar.

Add cranberry juice and spices.
