Ahmedabad: Over two lakh devotees participating in the rathyatra of Lord Jagganath at Saraspur, were provided `Maha Bhoj` (mass lunch) prasad here today.
The rathyatra, which started from Jamalpur temple, took a two-hour-halt at Saraspur, considered as the house of the Lords` maternal uncle as per the tradition.
The 133rd rathyatra of Lord Jagannath was accorded a warm welcome by both Hindu and Muslims alike on entering Saraspur, here.
Following over a century old ritual, the devotees here organised the `Maha Bhoj` prasad for close to two lakh devotees in the precincts of twenty odd Pols (cluster of homes) spread across in the locality.
“Since past one month we have been taking voluantary donations from the residents of Saraspur to gather essential food items required for the preparation of Maha Bhoj prasad,"
BJP Saraspur Sangathan General Secretary Kamlesh Joshi said. "In this mass prasad ceremony, close to two lakh devotees have lunch and dispere within two hours and again
start moving back along with the rath yatra," Joshi said.
Another volunteer, Mohammed Lilawar said, "Following the century-long custom, Lord`s yatra takes a halt of two hours in Saraspur, considered to be home of his maternal uncle, and devotees seek prasad at the 20 odd Pols situated in the vicinity."
