Recipe: Dal fry without onions!

Onions prices are up! Check out this dal recipe that will taste equally good without onions.

Ingredients:

¾ cup tuvar dal or masoor dal

2 ½ cup water

1 medium sized tomato (finely chopped)

1-2 green chillies (slit vertically)

6-7 strands of coriander

½ spoon ginger paste

½ tsp jeera

½ tsp saunf

¼ tsp hing

½ tsp turmeric powder

½ tsp red chili powder

2-3 tsp ghee

Water as required

Salt to taste

Procedure:

Add turmeric powder and hing to the dal. Add 2 and a half cups of water. Use a pressure cooker to boil the daal.  

Once it is boiled, use a masher to dissolve the dal completely into a thick paste.

In a kadhai, heat some ghee. Add jeera and saunf seeds and fry for a few seconds. Then add ginger paste and stir well so that he rawness of the ginger goes away.

Add green chilies, the spices and fry for a few seconds.

Now add the chopped tomato and cook until the oil floats on the surface.

Then add the cooked dal, salt to taste and stir for about 5 minutes. Add water if required and let it come to a boil. Make sure the consistency is thick enough. Garnish with chopped coriander.
