Amy Adams to portray blues legend Janis Joplin

Los Angeles: Hollywood actress Amy Adams is all set to portray tragic 1960s blues legend Janis Joplin, in a new biopic.

The 35-year-old star will transform into the Get It While You Can hitmaker under the direction of director Fernando Meirelles, Contactmusic reported.

Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey said he is at work on several new films, and "one`s a Fernando Meirelles Janis Joplin movie with Amy Adams playing Janis Joplin".

Joplin rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company and later as a solo artist. She died from a drug overdose in 1970, at the age of 27.

Meirelles has been previously confirmed to helm the film on the singer`s dramatic rise and fall from the spotlight. However the lead was not confirmed with actress Zooey Deschanel also linked to play the role of Joplin.
