Billy Crystal back as 2012 Oscars host after Eddie Murphy’s departure

London: Funnyman Billy Crystal has been brought back to host the Oscars next year after Eddie Murphy departed as the show’s host.

Crystal, 63, has hosted the widely-watched Hollywood telecast eight times previously.

The comedian announced his return with a tweet saying, “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up prescriptions. Looking forward to the show.”

Crystal first hosted the show in 1990 when ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ was named the year’s best movie.

The actor went on to host the show for three more consecutive years, dropped out for two years, then came back for the 1998 telecast when “Titanic” was voted the movie of the year, the Telegraph reported.

He last hosted the show in 2004.
