London: `Thor` star Chris Hemsworth is set to play the legendary formula one driver James Hunt in the Ron Howard directed movie `Rush`.
The movie will follow the story of Hunt`s rivalry with fellow driver Niki Lauda over dominance of the sport. Hunt died in 1993 aged 46 after suffering a heart attack, reported Contactmusic.
The movie which is also being co-produced by Howard is based on a script by Peter Morgan and is reportedly to be distributed by Universal pictures.
The filming of the movie will be alongside Hemsworth commitment to `Thor`, as Disney have scheduled a sequel of the superhero story to be released in July 2013.
`Rush` is expected to start production early next year.
James Hunt won the World Driver`s Championship in 1976, before retiring in 1979.
