London: Actor Christian Bale has revealed that he found filming his new movie ‘The Flowers Of War’ “exhausting” after watching his female co-actors portraying downtrodden prostitutes.
The Dark Knight star depicts an American priest who helps shelter young sex workers from Japanese soldiers in the film, which is an adaptation of writer Yan Geling’s novel set during the 1937 Nanking Massacre. Bale has admitted that the dark shoot took its toll on him, and he was left feeling drained at the end of each day on set. “Poor girls, they were always crying their eyes out. When I first arrived, I felt: this is just not good. I don’t like that - the girls having to be upset for 10 hours a day. They were crying their eyes out for 10 hours a day, I don’t know about you but for me it was exhausting - it makes you ill,” the Daily Express quoted him as telling the Associated Press. “But they were actually really good actresses because they could suddenly stop and kind of go ‘hahaha, we can be like that’ and I was so happy to see that,” he added.
