De Niro may play disgraced ‘Ponzi’ mastermind Bernie Madoff

London: After playing a number of fictional criminal characters, Robert De Niro is all set to play a real-time conman, as the 67-year-old actor has been in talks to appear as disgraced New York financier Bernie Madoff in a HBO cable film.

The movie is said to be based on the ‘The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff And The Death Of Trust’, a book written by ‘New York Times’ reporter Diana Henriques, reports the Daily Mail.

Close in age to Madoff, Vito Corlene of The Godfather II also grew up in New York, much like the fraudster.

Madoff has been serving 150 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to the global Ponzi scam that left thousands of victims penniless.
