London: Dwayne Johnson, better known as the Rock, is set to star in `Hercules`, directed by Brett Ratner.
The `Tooth Fairy` star is in talks to take on the titular role in the film, which will be based on Steve Moore and Cris Bolsin`s miniseries `Hercules: The Thracian Wars`, reported Contactmusic.
The film tells the story of Greek hero Hercules who has turned his back on the Olympian gods and can only find solace fighting in battle alongside his six companions.
The Thracian king then summons Hercules and his friends and tasks them with getting his army into proper fighting shape. Lured by the thought of gold and glory, he readily agrees, but soon comes to realise how far he`s fallen from grace.
Johnson will next be seen in `GI Joe 2: Retaliation` and is currently filming Michael Bay`s `Pain and Gain`.
