Eddie Murphy to receive Comedy Icon honour

London: Actor Eddie Murphy will be honoured with Comedy Icon for his performances in stand-up, sketches and film at the first ever Comedy Awards.

"Eddie Murphy`s impact in the world of comedy is immeasurable," said Casey Patterson, an executive producer at MTV Networks Entertainment Group.

"From the characters he created on `SNL,` to his ground-breaking stand-up performances and unforgettable film roles, Murphy changed the game forever and we`re honoured that he will be joining us for the first-ever Comedy Awards."

The show will take place Saturday, reports a website.

In his three decades long career, Murphy, 49, has done memorable comedy roles in ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, ‘Coming To America’ and ‘The Nutty Professor’.
