Jennifer Lawrence to star in `Hunger Games`
Los Angeles: Actress Jennifer Lawrence, who earned an Oscar nomination for `Winter`s Bone`, has landed the lead role in sci-fi movie `Hunger Games`.
The 20-year-old will play steely protagonist Katniss Everdeen in the film adaptation of the Suzanne Collins young adult novel.
Gary Ross is directing the project, which is being produced by Nina Jacobson and her Color Force banner, a website reported.
"Jennifer`s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never though we`d find somebody this perfect for the role," the writer said.
"Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in
spades," Ross said.
`True Grit` star Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin were among the other actresses being considered to play Everdeen`s young sister.
Set in the post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem, the story revolves around a 16-year-old girl, who has to fight till her death during the annual `Hunger Games`, which is organised by a powerful government called the Capitol.
