Los Angeles: Actresses Kate Winslet and Judy Davis are set to star in Australian writer-director Jocelyn Moorhouse`s `The Dressmaker`.
Davis, 58, will play 37-year-old Winslet`s mad mother in the film, which is a gothic tale of love, hate and haute couture set in outback Australia in the 1950s, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The film is based on a novel of the same name by Rosalie Ham.
"This is a project with rich, complex characters and an indelible Australian setting. Jocelyn is the perfect filmmaker to bring Rosalie Ham`s book to screens throughout the world, producer Sue Maslin said.
"The incredible assembly of talent in front of and behind the camera is testimony to the ambition of everyone involved to make a great film. We look forward to working with Universal Pictures to bring this project to Australian audiences," she added.
Maslin said filming would begin in Victoria early next year.
Academy Award-winning costume designer Tim Chappel will be part of the project.
