‘Real’ Steal’, ‘Footloose’ fight it out for top spot at weekend US box office

Washington: ‘Real Steel’ and ‘Footloose’ are fighting it out for the top spot at the weekend box office, according to the weekend studio estimates.

According to Hollywood.com, the DreamWorks’ flick ‘Real Steel’ starring Hugh Jackman, which tells the tale of machines in the boxing ring, would make it to the top for the second straight weekend, if it beats the remake of ‘Footloose’ once final numbers are released, Fox News reported.

‘Real Steel’ came in barely ahead of Paramount Pictures’ ‘Footloose’ with 16.3 million dollars and it is also being assumed that the two movies may switch rankings once the final numbers emerge.

Universal’s horror update ‘The Thing’ opened at number 3 with 8.7 million dollars, with George Clooney’s ‘Ides of March’ taking the 4th Spot, and ‘Dolphin Tale’ rounding the top five flicks for the weekend.

The top ten movies for the weekend were

Real Steel – 16.3 million dollars

Footloose – 16.1 million dollars

The Thing – 8.7 million dollars

Ides of march – 7.5 million dollars

Dolphin Tale – 6.3 million dollars
