Sci-fi thriller `Elysium` tops weekend box-office with $30.5M earnings

Washington: Matt Damon starrer dystopian science fiction thriller `Elysium` topped the U.S. weekend box office with earnings amounting to 30.5 million dollars.

The action film, directed by Neill Blomkamp, knocked off Jennifer Aniston`s new comedy `We`re the Millers`, which opened in second place with 26.6 million dollars, Fox News reported.

Disney`s new animated movie `Planes` was another new entry at the third place with a 22.5 million dollars gross, while `Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters` and `2 Guns` rounded out the new top five.
