Sir Edmund Hillary epic to premier at Toronto Film Festival

Wellington: A movie, based on Sir Edmund Hillary`s 1953 ascent of the world`s highest mountain, is set to make its debut at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.

The film, Beyond the Edge, by New Zealand-based writer and director Leanne Pooley recreates his ascent of Everest with Tenzing Norgay, reported.

It mixes archival footage and dramatic recreations so the audience can see the difficulties and details of the climb.

Hillary`s son, Peter, told the publication that the family was delighted the 3-D movie had been accepted for the festival, which has been the launching pad for several Oscar-winning films, including The King`s Speech and last year`s Silver Lining Playbook.

Filmmaker Pooley said Hillary`s story comes with all the elements of an epic journey: personal sacrifice, high stakes, political intrigue, and extreme risk, all set in an extraordinary landscape.
