`Jersey Shore` to end after sixth season

Los Angeles: Reality TV show `Jersey Shore`, starring Snooki, will come to an end after the sixth season which premieres in October.

MTV confirmed the forthcoming season will be its final series, but the network is to commemorate the end of the programme with a one-hour special entitled `Gym, Tan, Look Back`, on September 6.

The episode will feature interviews with the `Jersey Shore` cast and a look back at some of the show`s highlights since it began in December 2009.

The show has inspired a number of spin-offs including `Geordie Shore`, the English version of the programme, which takes place in Newcastle, north east England.

The news comes after Snooki, whose real name is Nicole Polizzi, gave birth to her and fiance Jionni LaValle`s son Lorenzo Dominic.

Mike `The Situation` Sorrentino, one of the main men in the programme, is currently starring in British reality TV show `Celebrity Big Brother` and fellow `Jersey Shore` star Pauly D, whose real name is Paul DelVecchio, has also been in his own spin-off show, `The Pauly D Project`.

`Jersey Shore` follows the wild lives of eight housemates spending their summers mainly in Jersey Shore, New Jersey, but the cast have also spent time in Miami Beach and Italy in the second and fourth seasons respectively.
