Court questions Big B, Sony TV on show promos

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court Tuesday issued notices to megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Sony TV and the censor board on a petition challenging promos of the forthcoming season of `Kaun Banega Crorepati` show. Petitioner Mumbai businessman Mukesh Sharma contended that a series of six promos telecast as a build-up to the show "insulted and maligned" the slogan of freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose "Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi doonga". The division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice G.S. Godbole issued the notice and asked Bachchan and others to file their replies by July 28. The judges also directed Sharma to make the union information and broadcasting ministry and the Advertising Standards Council of India as respondents in the matter. "There are six promos which have been telecast over a month. Of these, five have been twisting and mutilating the historic and inspiring slogan of Subhash Chandra Bose. Every time I saw the promos, my blood boiled and I finally decided to do something about it," Sharma told IANS. He said it was shocking how a superstar like Bachchan did not raise any objection to the promos or refused to take part in them. Sharma added that Bachchan should have raised objection to the promos - "but since nobody did anything, as a common and conscientious citizen, I decided to act in the matter". IANS
