Daily soaps are graveyard for actors: Bhanu Uday

Mussoorie: Bhanu Uday, best known for his role in TV crime series `Special Squad`, says he will never do a daily soap because it makes an actor monotonous. Uday, 33, who will be seen in a channel`s tele-series `Ek Tha Rusty II `, considers small screen as an acting workshop.
"I only do short-term stuff on TV. Since I am not an avid TV viewer, I feel that daily soaps are graveyard for actors. It takes out all their creativity. "I took up `Ek Tha Rusty II ` because it gives me the opportunity to relive the life of one of my favourite authors Ruskin Bond. It is just a 52 episodes series. TV is like an acting workshop for me, " Uday told. The second series of `Ek Tha Rusty`, currently being shot in the hilly terrains of Mussoorie, is an adaptation of Bond`s books -- Sensualist, Time Stops at Shamli and Shooting at Mango Top. Asked if he had watched the previous season of the serial, Uday, an NSD graduate, said, "I just saw couple of episodes to get a hang of the serial. I didn`t watch it to see how Vipul (earlier Rusty) used to act. I want to create my own Rusty based on my interpretation of the script." Uday, who was last seen in Prakash Jha`s debut Bhojpuri serial `Bahubali`, said he would prefer to sit at home rather than doing same kind of roles. " My job is to express myself everytime time in a new way. I am very scared of being typecast. I had rejected many offers post `Special Squad ` because I was getting similar kind of roles. I sat at home idly for many years. I took up `Bahubali` because it was different from my first role, " he said. Uday is also happy with his two Bollywood releases of this year. The actor will be seen in Mukul Abhyankar`s `Yaksha`. He is playing the titular character which is based on the same mythological character of the Mahabharat. His next release is a horror film `Machli Jal Ki Rani Hai` opposite actress Swara Bhaskar. "I am extremely choosy about my roles. I will not do any film where I am not playing a lead and my character has got no significance part. I hope that both my films prove my acting mettle in the film industry," he said.
