Mumbai: Veteran actor Rajeev Verma, who will be seen in a negative role in Prakash Jha`s `Aarakshan`, is enjoying his stint on small screen as TV`s favourite father.
The actor, best known for his role as Salman Khan`s father in 1989 hit `Maine Pyaar Kiya`, believes that TV has more avenues. Verma plays the role of a hen-pecked husband in Zee TV`s show `Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein` and it seems that he has found his niche.
"Right now I`m enjoying TV the most. This is my golden era as TV actor. I get to play different characters at the same time unlike in films. The medium also pays well," the actor said.
The actor, whose filmography includes names like `Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam` and `Hum Saath Saath Hain`, has no qualms about being stereotyped as a father onscreen, a moniker that stuck him during his student days.
"I went in for my post graduation in architecture a good 13 years after my graduation. So all my batch-mates in Delhi were so much younger and always refereed to me affectionately as papa," said Verma
"Interestingly, I have gained all my recognition essaying the roles of a papa!" Verma Added.
Despite his involvement with TV and films, Verma says theatre will always be his first love.
"In TV we mostly make use of our voice, while in theatre body language becomes very important. For me, theatre is not a profession, it`s my first love," he added.
