Making `fun` of Lata Mangeshkar no laughing matter: Sena body
Mumbai: The Shiv Sena-promoted Bharatiya Chitrapat Sena (BCS) has taken strong objection to a character in a comedy show on TV channel Sony making "fun" of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
The outfit has submitted a letter demanding immediate removal of the character (an actor and stand-up comedian) from the popular show, `Comedy Circus`, which is aired twice a week.
"A character on the show has been making fun of Lata Mangeshkar, who is a Bharat Ratna awardee. The character is nowhere near the stature enjoyed by Lata Didi. How can they make fun of her? She is the voice of the country," BCS President Abhijit Panse told PTI today.
"Only 41 people have been so far conferred with the prestigious Bharat Ratna award. Of these five are women and one of them is Lata Didi, who is world famous," Panse said.
"If the young generation watches these type of shows then they won`t understand the meaning of respect. Therefore, we have given a letter to the channel asking it to immediately drop the character from the show."
"We are not against humour but to ridicule someone like Lata Mangeshkar is highly objectionable," he asserted.
Panse also added that he has spoken to the authorities at Sony, who have said they had no intention of making fun of the legendary singer.
