Macau: Tracing the journey of the centenary year of Indian cinema, International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) Rocks paid tribute to the silver screen`s five important elements – hero, heroin, villain, music and director – through a gala song and dance routine.
The IIFA Rocks began with technical award last evening where Anurag Basu`s ‘Barfi!’ took home the major trophies including Best Screenplay, Cinematography and Make-up among others. "This is my second IIFA award for screenplay. I want to dedicate this award to my better half Tani, who believed in my half baked script of Barfi. I learnt scriptwriting by watching Salim-Javed`s film," said writer-director Basu, while accepting the Best Screenplay award. Actress Dia Mirza took to stage to present the opulent weddings of Hindi Cinema as she danced her way through wedding classics like `Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna`, `Chal Pyaar Karegi` and `Tenu Leke Main Jawanga`. Newcomer Arjun Kapoor`s performance kicked off with a dare-devil stunt. He entered the stage hanging on a cable to showcase all the facets of an Indian actor - romantic, macho, strong and protective. After high energy dance routines, music-composer Pritam Chakroborty and his troupe comprising Arijit Singh, Aditi Singh Sharma and Benny Dayal jammed on hit numbers like `Batameez Dil`, `Kabira` and `Raabta`. Actor Sonu Sood paid homage to the Bollywood baddy with his debut performance in IIFA while Sophie Chowdhury performed on hit item numbers from the days of Helen to Kareena Kapoor. The evening was hosted by Vir Das and Boman Irani in a true Punjabi style. PTI
