Los Angeles: Al Pacino's return to Broadway has been delayed by two weeks as the creative minds behind the scenes on David Mamet's new play "China Doll" make last-minute changes.

The "Godfather" star leads the cast of the new production, which is already in previews at New York's Gerald Schoenfeld Theater, reported Variety online.

It was slated to officially launch on November 19, but producers announced the show will now open on December 4.

"The move allows the creative team additional time to work on the play before its world premiere," a statement reads.

The postponement comes amid reports of negative reviews from theatregoers and rumours Pacino has had trouble remembering his lines.

The veteran actor portrays a wealthy older man whose plans to retire and wed a younger woman are rocked by a startling phone call.

The production marks the fourth collaboration between Mamet and Pacino, whose last appearance on the "Great White Way" was in the 2012 revival of the playwright's Glengarry Glen Ross.
