Los Angeles: Feature film `Fruitvale` and documentary `Blood Brother` emerged big winners at the Sundance film festival this year, bagging two awards each.
`Fruitvale`, about the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant on San Francisco`s BART by security guards in 2009 won both the Grand Jury Prize for US Dramatic and the US Dramatic Audience Award.
The documentary `Blood Brother` took home the Grand Jury Prize for US Documentary and the Audience Award for US Documentary, reported Deadline.
Jill Soloway won the Directing Award for US Dramatic for `Afternoon Delight` and Zachary Heinzerling took the Directing Award for US Documentary for `Cutie and the Boxer`.
`Inception` star Joseph Gordon-Levitt hosted the awards ceremony in Park City, Utah, last night. His own directorial feature debut `Don Jon`s Addiction` premiered at this year`s Sundance.
Actress Lake Bell was handed the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award for the film `In a World...`, story of an underachieving vocal coach who is motivated by her father, the king of movie-trailer voice-overs, to pursue her aspirations of becoming a voiceover star.
The US Documentary Editing Award was given to Matthew Hamachek for `Gideon`s Army`, while the US Dramatic Cinematography Award went to Bradford Young for `Ain`t Them Bodies Saints` and `Mother of George`.
Richard Rowley won the US Documentary Cinematography Award for `Dirty Wars`, while the Dramatic Special Jury Award for Sound Design went to Shane Carruth and Johnny Marshall for `Upstream Color`.
US Dramatic Special Jury Award went to Actors Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley for their high school student roles in `The Spectacular Now`.
`American Promise` and `Inequality for All` won the US Documentary Special Jury Award. In the world cinema section, the Dramatic Audience Award was given to `Metro Manila` from UK, Documentary Audience Award went to `The Square (Al Midan)` from Egypt, the Dramatic Directing Award was handed to Sebastian Silva for the film `Crystal Fairy` from Chile and the Screenwriting Award was bagged by `Wajma (An Afghan Love Story)` from Afghanistan.
The Special Jury Prize World Cinema Documentary was given to `Pussy Riot - A Punk Prayer` (Russian Federation, United Kingdom), which shows the story of the three female bandmembers facing seven years in a Russian prison for a satirical performance in a Moscow cathedral.
World Cinema Grand Jury Prize Documentary was on by `A River Changes Course` from Cambodia. The Documentary Directing prize in the section was handed to Tinatin Gurchiani (`The Machine Which Makes Everything Disappear`/Georgia, Germany).
