New Delhi: Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s latest outing at the Box Office, ‘Fukrey’, despite the lack of any big star in its cast, has managed to gather a total of 14 crores in its first five days. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani’s Excel Entertainment, ‘Fukrey’ opened in theatres June 14, 2013. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Fukrey Tuesday biz was better than Monday. Fri 2.62 cr, Sat 3.10 cr, Sun 4.10 cr, Mon 2.15 cr, Tue *est* 2.25 cr. Total: 14.22 cr.” The film stars Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Majot Singh, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadda in pivotal roles. Set in East Delhi, filmmaker Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s tale is one with heavy dollops of witty one-liners and humorous situations. The film managed to get mostly good reviews from critics and was praised for its freshness and comedy. Given that the cast is comprised almost entirely of newcomers, the five day business of 14.22 cr is one that might be termed impressive. Word of mouth has also been instrumental in helping the film grow. As for the cast, while Richa Chadda’s last at the BO, Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2’ was extremely acclaimed, Pulkit Samrat’s ‘Bitto Boss’ had sunk into oblivion. ‘Fukrey’, meanwhile, is expected to hold theatres better this week.
