Melbourne: Anurag Kashyap`s two part mafia drama ‘Gangs of Wasseypur I and II’ and Ashim Ahluwalia`s ‘Miss Lovely’ are all set to be screened at Melbourne International Film Festival next month.
Both the films will be screened under MIFF`s `Accent on Asia` section. One of the oldest film festivals in the world, MIFF it was founded in 1951. This year`s MIFF will be held from August 2 to August 19 in the Melbourne city. The festival website has described the Anurag Kashyap`s Gang of Wasseypur as an extra-ordinary achievement. "GoW balances brutal violence with tongue-in-cheek comedy, taking the cinematic spectacle of Bollywood and adding a healthy dose of gritty realism. "Where Part 1 delves into the history of the conflict and, to an extent, of postwar India, Part 2 examines a Bollywood-obsessed generation growing up on an inheritance of vengeance. An exhilarating cocktail of carnage and comedy, Gangs of Wasseypur is an extraordinary achievement," the festival website noted. Both the parts of GoW are to be screened on August 12. Ahluwalia`s "Miss Lovely" is set in the lower depths of Bombay`s `C` grade film industry. The film follows the story of two brothers who produce sex horror movies in the mid-1980s. PTI
