Mumbai: It was almost believed that the film ‘2 States’, based on Chetan Bhagat`s novel by the same name, was shelved forever. But the latest buzz has it that the film will go on floors soon, since the protagonist of the film has finally been decided. According to sources, Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar will now start working on their ambitious film, with Imran Khan in the lead. A source revealed, "Sajid had bought the rights of the film a couple of years back. It was to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, with Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead. However, talks fizzled out. After that, Karan stepped in as the co-producer and Ranbir Kapoor agreed to topline it. But Kapoor`s involvement didn`t work out and the project was put on the backburner." It was only recently that everything fell in place with Imran being roped in. “Imran is the new star on the block and with a slew of hits to his credit, he is as bankable as any other top star. Karan was keen to have Imran on board. The actor takes his time to commit to any film. But he loved the script of 2 States and gave his nod to the film, which is expected to start early next year”, said a source. As far as the female lead is concerned, Deepika and Priyanka are being considered. ‘2 States’ is a light – hearted romcom about a Punjabi boy and a South Indian girl and the roller coaster ride that they go through before they finally get hitched.
