Mumbai, Jan 15: Deepa Mehta’s adaptation of Salman Riushdie’s ‘Midnight’s Children’ has finally found it’s ‘reel’ life protagonist. Bollywood’s chocolate boy, Imran Khan is Rushdie’s favourite, as he says that Imran is best fitted for the role of Saleem Sinai.Rushdie’s historically rich novel, the bestseller of 2008 is said to be Deepa Mehta’s much-awaited project after her successful ventures in movies like, ‘1947 Earth’ and ‘Water’. Well, we certainly hope that this one too has the knack to draw audiences to the theatres and perhaps Imran is just adding to its glamour. In an interview to a news tabloid Deepa Mehta confirmed reports of casting Imran for her movie, and said, “My friend Rushdie will take an active part in the casting for the film. He will also look into who plays Saleem, and quite approves of Imran. He is yet to meet Imran though, to take a final call.” “I personally feel that if an actor is good and suited to the role he plays, then his popularity will only add to the film’s equity,” adds Deepa. Well we must note that Rushdie’s Saleem Sinai had a snot-nose, doesn’t look like Imran has one!
