Shroff, who made a grand debut with ‘Hero’ in 1983, may play Ranbir’s father in the film.

"I did the look test for the role of Sunil Dutt sahab. Its big thing for me that they thought of me for this role. It's a difficult role (to play). I will try not to look like him. I will try to follow his mannerisms," Jackie said.

"I have met him (Sunil Dutt) on a couple of occasions. The first time I met him was at his place when Baba (as Sanjay Dutt is fondly called) introduced me. It was a casual, normal conversation between us," he said.

Jackie also revealed that Hirani shared his look test, photos with Sanjay and the latter loved it.

Earlier, reports suggested that Aamir Khan and megastar Amitabh Bachchan too were approached for senior Dutt's role but neither of them took it up.

Although Jackie is yet to sign the role but according to him, if all goes well (referring to his selection) he will begin shoot from January next year.

Currently, the 59-year-old actor is busy with Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar 3 which stars Big B in the lead role.
