Lack of promotion killed ‘Lanka’: Manoj Bajpayee

New Delhi: Manoj Bajpayee, whose latest film ‘Lanka’ has fared average at the Box Office, feels it could have done better if it had good promotions.
"`Lanka` got a lot of appreciation but lack of good promotion again killed a film which I am very proud of. Not angry, but disappointed," Manoj posted on micro-blogging site Twitter. The 42-year-old has portrayed a character inspired by myhtological demon king Raavan in ‘Lanka’, which also features Tia Bajpai and Arjan Bajwa. The movie released Friday. Earlier, actors like Govinda and veteran star Dharmendra have lamented how promotions affect a film nowadays. "Publicity drama has become a very important part for any film now. It is an important element. That`s the only reason why some of my previous movies didn`t do well," Govinda had admitted in a candid interview to reporters earlier. Even Dharmendra rued about how promotions have become an inevitable part of the film industry. "Filmmakers have made the audience so used to promotions that if a film is not promoted at a certain level, people feel that the film is not worth watching." He also took the example of two of his films, and said: "Good films fail to work because they are not promoted the way they should have been. `Apne` was a bigger film than `Yamla Pagla Deewana` but the producer did not have enough money to promote the film." "We extensively promoted `Yamla Pagla Dewana`; moreover the script was also good and people enjoyed it completely. However, it`s true if the films today are not promoted in the right way, they tend to stay behind," Dharmendra said. IANS
