Mumbai: In spite of much speculation and debate, Anuarg Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz was sent as India’s official entry in Best Foreign Film category to the 85th Academy Awards. But a press release on Friday stated that only nine films have made it to the next round of voting in the foreign film category and ‘Barfi!’ does not feature in that list. 75 films in total had qualified initially to compete in the prestigious category. Earlier this year, The Film Federation of India faced flak for choosing the film over critically acclaimed films like ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ and ‘Kahani’. As ‘Barfi!’ was accused of plagiarism, many felt that that it was not the right choice for India’s official entry to the Oscars. While it may have not got the Oscar nod, Anurag Basu’s film has been doing the rounds of various international film festivals and earning accolades.
