Producer moves HC, says Devgan`s new film violates copyright

Bollywood producer, Karan Ramsay has moved the High Court, alleging that he owns the copyright to the script of `All The Best`, produced by Ajay Devgan.

Mumbai: Bollywood producer, Karan Ramsay has moved the High Court, alleging that he owns the copyright to the script of `All The Best`, produced by Ajay Devgan. Ramsay has also sought direction from the court seeking to restrain Devgan Films from releasing the movie next week.
According to Ramsay, the film`s script is too similar to that of `Uncle Samza Karo` (USK), being produced by him. He claims that he bought copyrights of USK from Paritosh Painter, the scriptwriter, in November 2006, who then sold the same script to Devgan Films, infringing Ramsay`s copyrights. Ramsay, who owns the production house `Om Film Company`, also stated that Painter had tried to retrieve copyrights of the script in 2007. In the arbitration proceedings that followed, Indian Motion Pictures And Producers Association ruled that Ramsay owned the copyrights. Yet, Devgan Films made the film based on the same script, Ramsay alleged. High Court is slated to hear the case on October 12. No order has been passed in the case yet. `All The Best`, directed by Rohit Shetty is a comic caper with a star cast including Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse.
