Mumbai: ‘Ragini MMS 2’, a sequel to 2010 horror- ‘Ragini MMS’, has managed to better its prequel.
Directed by Bhushan Patel and produced by Ekta Kapoor, ‘Ragini MMS 2’ starring Sunny Leone, Parvin Dabas, Sandhya Mridul and Divya Dutta, has promised to live up to the “horrex” genre with abundant steamy scenes seasoned with a few really spooky ones!
The film revolves around the ambitious project of a director (Parvin Dabas), who is all set to direct a film based on the life of Ragini with Sunny as its lead. He wants to shoot the film in the same haunted house where the supernatural incident took place. By beginning the film with ‘Ragini MMS’ climax, the filmmaker has given a strong purpose to the sequel.
The film has a number of raunchy scenes, substantial enough to draw Sunny Leone’s fans to theatres. But after ‘Jism 2’, Sunny’s performance in this genre has certainly improved a tad.
Nonetheless, the actress may need to emote a lot more than she does to prove her acting credentials in Bollywood.
The filmmaker has left no stone unturned in giving his best. The visual effects are apt and the overall mise-en-scène is in order. But certain cliché horror film like backdrop and background score act as a dampener, sometimes making the film look like any dud horror film produced in Bollywood.
The foot-tapping numbers- ‘Baby Doll’ and ‘Chaar Botal Vodka’- are a huge hit and Sunny’s dance moves have raised the “sex” quotient in the songs a lot higher.
As a producer, Ekta has moved mountains to promote her film on almost all the platforms so as to ensure the film gets maximum publicity. She has stuck to her own formula and knows if used well, it can reap her fortune. But whether or not Sunny’s oomph will be sufficient to create ripples at the Box Office is something for us to wait and watch.
