Making real life inspired films is a risky business for when it comes to out-and-out commercial cinema, most of the films run the risk of ending up as flimsy documentaries. However, Rajkumar Gupta’s ‘No One Killed Jessica’ will certainly not disappoint the audiences. ‘No One Killed Jessica’ not only comes across as a courageous real life inspired cinematic experience but a racy crime thriller. Based on the murder of model Jessica Lall (1999) in Tamarind Court, Delhi and her sister Sabrina Lall’s fight for justice, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ satirises and criticises the glaring loopholes in Indian judiciary and political system, where power nexus and corruption rules the roost. Starring Vidya Balan as Sabrina Lall and Rani Mukerji as a firebrand journalist Meera Gaity, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ narrates the cold blooded murder of Jessica Lall and Sabrina’s trials and tribulations on the road to justice. Apparently, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ is a no-nonsense hard-hitting film that lays bare the bitter truth about our society. Director Rajkumar Gupta makes sure that ‘No One Killed Jessica’ comes across as a gutsy film, which does not end up as a tardy documentary. The film does not once appear preachy or ideological in nature as it shows two women’s fight for justice. Kudos to Vidya and Rani for their power-packed performance. With ‘No One Killed Jessica’, Vidya and Rani truly raise the bar as seasoned actresses. Watch Rani spewing venom against the dilapidated system and Vidya’s complex Sabrina act. Even newcomer Myra’s portrayal as Jessica is quite convincing. Last but not the least, catch all the adrenaline rushing moments of ‘No One Killed Jessica’ in Amit Trivedi’s rocking melodies. ‘No One Killed Jessica’ is a superbly written and well crafted piece of cinema. Ratings: Four cheers for this one!
