Washington: Seth Rogen's 'The Interview' has worked surprisingly much better than Sony must have planned especially on digital channels with 30 million dollars of earnings even after its haphazard release.

James Franco starter movie was rented or purchased 4.3 million times online which came up to across 31 million dollars of earning, whereas it has grossed roughly 5 million dollars in theaters after its run was drastically scaled back in the face of terror threats, reportedly.

Because of the chaos following the Sony hack, `The Interview`'s release was staggered across a number of platforms, premiering at different times on YouTube, Xbox Video and Google Play, and reigning for days as the most popular film on YouTube.

James Wearer and his team settled a price of 6 dollars to rent the movie and 15 dollars to own it, and now it's been estimated that the film will break even, since it's working off a 44 million dollar budget and at least 35 million dollars in marketing costs.
