Mumbai: The famous "Buddha" series, which was once telecast on Doordarshan, will now be available for viewers on DVD format.
"Ultra Media and Entertainment has launched a 13 set DVD collection of 'Buddha - The King of Kings' Magnum Opus on the life of Buddha produced on a scale and grandeur never before seen on Indian Television," Sushilkumar Agrawal, CEO, Ultra Media and Entertainment told reporters here.
He said the DVDs depict the personal life and journey of Prince Siddhartha's illustrious journey of being born in the lap of luxury as a prince, to his growing years to denouncing his throne and living the life of an ascetic to attaining 'The Awakening'.
"Buddha" that was produced by B K Modi Productions and directed by Dharmesh Shah was telecast on DD National and Zee TV every Sunday September 8, 2013 onwards for a period of 55 weeks.
It starred Himanshu Soni in the main lead of Buddha. He was supported by Kabir Bedi, Nigar Khan, Sameer Dharmadhikari.
"We have all read about Buddha at one point or the other. Yet, so much remains to be explored about this powerful, magnetic thought leader, who woke up to the 'Ultimate Truth' under the Bodhi Tree.
"Does any of us even know what he was like, as a child? What were the influences that shaped his thinking as a youth? We know the leader and his school of thought, but little do we know how a beautiful person he was from within," Agrawal said.
He added all these and more virtues of him have been told in detail in a story telling format in this DVD set.
"It is also an ideal watch for the younger generation who might not be aware of the in-depth life that Buddha had lead and how his ideologies and values can enhance a human being's life," he said.
