Mumbai: After a span of almost two decades, veteran Nana Patekar will be soon donning the director`s hat again for his second film, an unconventional love story where a 50-year-old man would romance a woman half his age.
"I have written a script..I may direct it any moment...I don`t know exactly when. I don`t think its an issue-based film. In my film, the actress would be of 24-25 years of age and the actor would be almost of 50," Nana told PTI. The senior Bollywood actor said the movie will be a simple small love story, probably on the lines of Hollywood filmmaker David Lean`s `Ryan`s Daughter` or anything of the `Roman Holiday` sort. But it would not be inspired or adapted from them, he clarified. Ryan`s Daughter` is a 1970 film directed by David Lean. The film, set in 1916, tells the story of a married Irish woman who has an affair with a British officer during World War I, despite opposition from her nationalist neighbours. Nana said, "I would be acting in the film. If I get a `buddha khushad` person like him (for the 50-year-old character) then good...or else I will only act. About the actress its not decided.. lets see who wants to work with me. I may start the film this year or hopefully next year." On whether he will follow the recent trend of item songs in his directorial venture, he said, "I may have item songs..I don`t know... but like `Seekh Le?Aankhon Mein Aakhen Dal` from `Munna Bhai MBBS`...It was an item song but it was an inherent part of the film. The man was dying...the song was sensible." The 60-year-old actor had turned director with `Prahaar: The Final Attack` co-starring Madhuri Dixit in 1991. Now he is readying for his next release--Tigmanshu Dhulia`s `Shagird`--an action-thriller that revolves around the crime branch of Delhi Police. After playing a cop in `Ab Tak Chappan`, Nana returns in another cop avatar in this film, where he essays the role of ACP Hanumant Singh which is reportedly based on late encounter specialist Rajbir Singh. Singh was shot down by a property dealer in Gurgaon in 2008. The film produced by Reliance Big Pictures, starring Rimi Sen, Zakir Hussain, Mohit Ahlawat and Anurag Kashyap as a gangster in a cameo, will release on May 13. PTI
