London: Hollywood superstar Penelope Cruz says that her film `Vicky Cristina Barcelona` helped her understand people who suffer from emotional disorders.
The 37-year-old actress, who bagged an Academy award for her portrayal of a feisty but depressed artist in the 2009 film, said that she has learned not be judgemental about mental illnesses, reported OK magazine online. "Looking back I learned a great deal from it. I feel even more compassionate for people who live in dark places in their head, or people that feel really trapped," said the 37-year-old. "It made me understand how easy it is to name somebody crazy. To categorise is so relative. I`ve always been very interested in that subject and this character is a lot about that," said Cruz. The Spanish beauty, who recently gave birth to her first child with actor husband Javier Bardem had earlier joked about finding a permanent home for her Oscar trophy. "I have it in my house in Spain. And I still haven`t found the right place for it. For the first few months after I won, I was so excited about it that I took it everywhere with me. I even took it to the beach, I put it on a towel but it is very heavy and it doesn`t float," added Cruz. PTI
