Bhimsen Joshi chosen for Gangubai Music Foundation award

Bhimsen Joshi, the doyen of Hindustani classical music and Bharat Ratna awardee has been chosen for the Lifetime Achievement Award instituted by the Gangubai Hanagal Music Foundation.

Hubli: Bhimsen Joshi, the doyen of Hindustani classical music and Bharat Ratna awardee has been chosen for the Lifetime Achievement Award instituted by the Gangubai Hanagal Music Foundation. Joshi has been chosen for the award for his contribution to the field of Indian Classical music, Manoj Hanagal, President of the Foundation and grandson of late Gangubai Hanagal, the Hindustani music legend in whose memory the award is being given, told reporters here.
The award, which would be presented to Joshi during a ceremony in October, carries a citation and Rs 50,000. Veereshwar Punyashrama of Gadag and Gayana Samaj Deval Club of Kolhapur have been selected for the Gangubai Hanagal Memorial National award given to institutions imparting education in music. The award comprised a citation and cash prize of Rs 25,000, Manoj said. PTI
