New Delhi: Guess who has ample reasons to celebrate this New Year? It's Adnan Sami.

The Pakistani singer of 'Kabhi to Nazar Milao' and 'Lift Kara De' fame has finally been granted Indian citizenship on humanitarian grounds.

Following the representation submitted by Adnan to Home Ministry on May 26, 2015 – his Indian citizenship will be with effect from January 1, 2016.

The singer's journey in India began when he first arrived on a visitor's visa on 13th March, 2001. The validity of the visitor's visa was of one year and was issued by Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

Reportedly, the singer's passport expired on May 26, 2015 – which led him to turn to the Indian government in order to legalise his stay in India.
