New Delhi: The Turkish Embassy recently hosted a classical music evening, which gave guests an opportunity to witness the leading sitar player Ustad Nishat Khan transcend musical barriers with his provocative expression and spellbinding technical mastery.

The evening was organized by H.E. Mr. Burak Akcapar , Ambassador of Turkey and his wife Mrs. Sebnam Akcapar at their residence on Prithviraj Road, Delhi which saw several eminent diplomats and socialites, including former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, enjoying the mesmerizing and deeply personal interpretation of Khan's rich musical heritage.

Speaking at the occasion, the renowned musician said, "People from all over the world, who are here, show a lot of enthusiasm and serious interest in Indian culture. It's a wonderful interchange."

Khan is one of the leading universally acknowledged sitar players of his time. He has previously collaborated with the world's leading performers and composers, the likes of John McLaughlin, Philip Glass, Paco Pena and Evelyn Glennie. He was also honoured with a U.S. Congressional Award for Contribution to Culture and Community in 2005.
