Asha Bhosle disappointed with present day film music

Bhopal: Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle feels that present day music in Hindi films do not have any recall value and that melodies of yore still rule the roost.

"Long back when we used to sing, a single song was made and prepared in one full day but today a song is ready in only an hour. In earlier times, the songs were very well written, they were composed ably by noted music directors and performed well by singers," she told reporters here.

Asha is in the city to take part in the Madhya Pradesh Day celebrations this evening.

She remembered a song from Bimal Roy`s `Bandini` in which she sang the touching `Ab Ke Baras Bhej Bhaiya Ko Babul` for the film`s heroine Nutan picturised in a jail and said, "there were no trappings in the song but it continues to be popular even almost 50 years after it first came."

The 79-year-old legend who recently entered the Guinness Records for most single studio recordings said that even now she practises music for at least four hours a day.

"This is something which present day singers are not doing," she said.

Bhosle said no one can become a singer just by singing only one song and that he or she must perform continuously for a long time.

To a query, the singer said she was against remixes and the practice of choosing singers on TV shows through SMSes from audience.

"Any participant in a TV show can manage any number of messages. The final decision on who a good singer is should be left to the judges of the show as they have proper knowledge of music," she said.
