Global Indian Music Awards in October

Mumbai: The inaugural edition of Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA) will be held in October.

Initiated by Wizcraft International Entertainment and Star Television Network, the awards will promote and recognise talent in this industry, a press statement said.

`Star GIMA` aims to honour talent across Film and Non Film music with the vision of celebrating different music genres on the same platform, a press release issued here today said.

"It is our belief that the music industry`s dedicated audiences has waited a long time to see their musical icons applauded. We feel that we will achieve what has never been done before, unifying all Indian musical influences onto one common stage," Sabbas Joseph, Director, Wizcraft International said.

On association with Star Television, Sanjay Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, STAR India said, "Music is an essential aspect of entertainment and has a deep connect with Indian audiences."

The nominees in the various categories will be determined by a panel of members from within the music industry.

Cutting across music and films, the GIMA Advisory Board and Jury include names like Bhushan Kumar, L Subramanium, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan, Prasoon Joshi, Pritam, Karan Johar, Mukesh Bhatt, Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, Shekhar, Leslie Lewis, Talat Aziz, Usha Uthup, Resul Pookutty, Sulaiman Merchant, Kumar Taurani, Apurv Nagpal and Atul Churamani, among others.

Industry music labels, producers of music and films are invited to send in their entries with the eligibility period being between 1st April 2009 till 31st March 2010.

The winners will then be chosen by the Music Academy which comprises over 200 members through online voting. Ernst and Young, the audit firm will tabulate all Academy Votes and the winners will be declared at the Awards Ceremony, the release said.

Supporting this endeavor are industry music partners: Indian Music Industry (IMI), T Series, YRF Music, SaReGaMa, South India Music Companies Association (SIMCA), Eros International, Tips, EMI, Sony Music, Venus, Universal Music Group and Aditya Music among others.
