Indian Idol contestant records track with Bappi Lahiri

Folk singer Swaroop Khan, a contestant on reality show `Indian Idol 5` has got his big break in showbiz, recording a song for music composer Bappi Lahiri in the forthcoming movie `Emotional Atyachar`.

"I am ecstatic about getting a chance to work with Bappi Da. It`s a joyous moment for me. I am grateful to the jury and Sony Entertainment Television for giving me this wonderful platform to showcase my talent, which enabled this big break," Swaroop said in a statement. The 19-year-old singer from Jodhpur impressed the veteran musician with his raw talent and wider vocal range on the show, which led Lahiri to sign him up for the movie. The recording took place at Lahiri`s studio on July 24. "Swaroop truly represents the soulful Rajasthani folk music in all its glory. After watching his performance week after week, I was so impressed with his quality and versatility that I was more than happy to give him a break. I am confident people will enjoy listening to his voice," Lahiri said. Apart from Swaroop, another singer on the show Sreeram Chandra from Hyderabad has also recorded a duet with Shreya Ghosal for composer duo Salim-Suleiman. PTI
