Kaushal composes music for Nitin Desai`s film
Mumbai: Marathi music composer Kaushal Imandar who has scored music for Bollywood art director Nitin Desai`s magnum opus ‘Bal Gandharva’ said that artistes like Bal Gandharva were `divine miracles`.
Talking to reporters, Kaushal said the process of composing music to the biopic of one of the greatest actor-singer of Marathi theatre releasing on May 6 was like "walking on a tight rope".
"When Nitin first told me about making a movie on Bal Gandharva and that I have to compose music for it, my instinctive reaction was ...how is that possible", Kaushal said.
Artistes like Bal Gandharva, Lata Mangeshkar are not just singers, they are divine miracles. The pressure is such that if anything goes wrong, there can be adverse reaction, he added.
"When you are making a movie on performers like Bal Gandharva or Lata, the casting in songs need to be perfect and we found our perfect cast in form of Anand Bhate, a disciple of late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, who has sung all the 21 songs," Kaushal said.
Anand Bhate was a child prodigy who was given the title ‘Anand Gandharva’ because of the ease with which he sang Bal Gandharva`s songs.
"He is the legend`s voice in our film and we feel but for Anand there is no one else to sound like Bal Gandharva," he said.
He said the Marathi theatre legend was like a jigsaw puzzle. "Our generation has not seen him in person. We have to collect information on him through archives, memoirs and experiences of others, piece them together to understand Bal Gandharva," Kaushal said.
