Zakir Hussain performs in Melbourne
Melbourne: The east and the west met in a musical harmony when Indian Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain played the `Sangam` along with American saxophonist Charles Lloyd and drummer Eric Harland at the Melbourne Jazz Festival here.
The two hour long performance by the trio was held in the famous Melbourne Town Hall which was jam packed by thousands of music lovers who gave a standing ovation for ten long minutes after the trio concluded their performance.
Grammy award winning percussionist Hussain also surprised the audience by sometime singing along with the beats of his Tabla at the concert yesterday.
Hussain has collaborated with other music legends, be it Ravi Shankar or John McLaughlin. He has earlier performed at the iconic Sydney Opera House in 2008 as well as in Perth.
